How do you put two different function outputs from the same controller into the same view(page)?
For example, I have a function going to the "article" div, and another function that I am trying to use within the "aside" div. (using HTML 5 nomenclature here)

I have went as far as using the actual db query in the (view)aside div and it still only displays the 1st article function.

I have changed the $data('result') variable to separate variables and that makes no difference.

I am showing a todo list of jobs I have to do in the article div, then showing the titles of the completed todo's in the aside div.

I suppose I am making a mess of this explanation. Would you use a function from a different controller?

I want to use Zend Studio for a project built on CodeIgniter. But I want to be able to use the debugging functionality of Zend. Because of that, I cant seem to get the debugger to work properly cause it doesnt "understand" codeigniter. So, in order for the setup to work, do I need to install Zend server, so that the debugging is done serverside? Can someone explain this to me a bit? Thank you.

I am planning to make a project management with PHP/MySQL/Codeigniter.

It will have 10 - 20 users and 20 - 30 projects going on at the same time.

Let's say John is a member of project A, B and C. Cindy is in A, D, F G etc.

I want to make it only members of project can access the project.

Now I am not sure how to approach this.

CodeIgniter vs CakePHP vs ZendFramework vs Symfony(In Chinese) is a post from: PHP Frameworks
【 CodeIgniter 】
测试版本：CodeIgniter_1.6.1
优点：
【 CakePHP 】
中文手册：http://www.1×3x.net/cakephp
测试版本：cake_1.1.19.6305
优点：
1. CakePHP是最类似于RoR的框架，包括设计方式，数据库操作的Active Record方式;设计层面很优雅，没有自带多余的 library，所有的功能都是纯粹的框架，执行效率还不错;数据库层的 hasOne, hasMany 功能很强大，对于复杂业务处理比较合适;路由功能，配置功能还不错;自动构建脚手架(scaffold)很强大;适合中型应用;基本实现过了MVC每一层;具有自动操作命令行脚本功能;
【 Zend Framework 】
Zend [...]

You can see the original prototype code here.

ajax_cart and ajax_cart_remove in controllers are followings.

function ajax_cart(){

  }

  function ajax_cart_remove(){
    $this->MOrders->removeLineItem($this->input->post('id'));

How do I stop CodeIgniter adding semicolons ; to data sent via POST that contains ampersand &?

For example it is converting "a=1&b=2&c=3" into "a=1&b;=2&c;=3". From looking on the forums it seems to be XSS filtering, which I don't want to disable site-wide only for 1 controller, so I tried the code below but it's still doing it:

$this->config->set_item('global_xss_filtering',false);

Hi Guys,

I'm learning PHP and I'm not that familiar with OOP yet - I've read a book about it, but never really programmed using OOP.

I would also like to learn how to use a framework (codeIgniter, as it seems the most 'friendly' to beginners).

Now I need a suggestion from you: would you recommend learning FIRST the 'standalone' OOP and then move to codeigniter, or go directly to codeigniter as it will make me learn the basics of OOP anyway?

Thanks,
Patrick

NOTE: I've seen a few replies like "learn first some 'real' oop using another language, then move back to PHP". I'm happy to take on board all suggestions, but I'd actually like to stay with PHP since the beginning, as I'm not planning to use other languages at the moment.

I'm still new to code igniter and I'm having problems getting the login system to work.

The login always works when I use Firefox. The login consistently works on some IE7 browsers but consistently fails on other IE7 browsers.

When tracing the code, I see that the models/redux_auth_model.php does successfully authenticate the user, it writes user information into the $this->session->set_userdata() and it redirect them to a member's page of my choosing. Here's the code:

public function login($identity = false, $password = false)
{
            $identity_column = $this->config->item('identity');
            $users_table     = $this->tables['users'];

            if ($identity === false || $password === false || $this->identity_check($identity) == false)
            {
                return false;
            }

            $query = $this->db->select($identity_column.', email, password, group_id')
                           ->where($identity_column, $identity)
                           ->where('active', 'Active')
                           ->limit(1)
                           ->get($users_table);

        $result = $query->row();

        if ($query->num_rows() == 1)
        {
            //$password = $this->hash_password_db($identity, $password);

           if (!empty($result->activation_code)) { return false; }

                if ($result->password === $password)
                {
                    $this->session->set_userdata($identity_column,  $result->{$identity_column});
                    $this->session->set_userdata('email',  $result->email);
                    $this->session->set_userdata('group',  $result->group_id);
                    return true;
                }
        }

        return false;
}

I did a variable dump of $this->session in both IE7 and FF and confirmed that all the userdata is intact before the redirect. The session had my email information, group information and $identity_column information.

However, after the redirect, the session data is empty on some IE7 browsers, which is why CI keeps booting me out of the system. It's fully intact on other IE7 browsers and always intact in Firefox.

Why would session data be browser dependent?

Any ideas on how to troubleshoot this further? I am baffled...

I'm working on an app in CodeIgniter, and I want to have admin pages for several of the objects in the application, and I'm wondering what would be the better way to put these into an MVC structure.

Idea 1:
In each controller, have an admin function, and add all of the admin pages I would like into that function.
example URL: domain.com/articles/admin

Idea 2
Make a new admin controller, which would have to reference many different models, and put all of the admin pages in there.
example URL: domain.com/admin/articles

which way would be better?

Hi friends,

I use codeigniter. I have footer_view.php, header_view.php and other view php files for pages like aboutus, contactus, etc... for example for about us page, I create model for db actions, than I create a controller to get db variables and send variable to about us view as:

$this->load->view('aboutus/',$data);

everthing is fine until this point. but when I need to get data from db at footer, how will I use mvc way? if I create a footer_model, i cannot make view('footer/') because it is actually a part if page, not a page itself :/

I hope I could explain my issue... I appreciate helps!! Thanks!

Hi, I'm trying to develop a little base CMS with CodeIgniter for my own use on projects but got stuck on this. Also, I'm very new to CI, but got some years with ZF and OOP PHP.

First of all let me show you my file structure:

index.php (frontend bootstrap)

backend.php (backend bootstrap)

.htaccess

system ( CI core )

application

backend

[...] MVC related files and folders (config, controllers, models, views...)

frontend

[...] MVC related files and folders (config, controllers, models, views...)

codeigniter

[...] (cache, database, scaffolding...)

Ok. I can get to work the index.php or backend.php routing with an .htaccess, but can't get it to work with both. Here's the .htaccess code:

RewriteEngine on
RewriteBase /

# Hide the application and system directories by redirecting the request to index.php (and throwing a 404 error)
RewriteRule ^(application|system|\.svn) index.php/$1 [L]

RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-f
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-d

RewriteRule ^(.*)$ index.php/$1 [QSA,L]

Well, what I need is the following:

www.domain.com/backend/controller/action/parameters (backend.php routing)

www.domain.com/controller/action/parameters (index.php routing)

Hope I explained well.

Can anyone help, please? :)

Best regards.

I have a controller
user
with a method
login

For some reason, when I call:

$this->post

I get an error
Undefined property: User::$post

While, this works fine:

print_r($_POST);

Massive API/Framework mashup issue (oAuth, Facebook, Twitter, Code Igniter) is a post from: PHP Frameworks

Hi all,

I'm having (many, but for now,) one problem with a project I'm working on.

It is a PHP project run on Code Igniter

It is a Facebook app that wants to use oAuth Twitter authorization

CodeIgniter by default clears the $_GET array because it uses the URI for controlling MVC stuff. You can turn this off to access the GET array, and use a string like
example.com/?c=MyController&m=MyMethod
to get around this.

Facebook asks you to define a root url for you application page. This means that for me:

apps.facebook.com/MyApplication == http://www.myownserver.com/index.php/c=SignIn&

I have it set up this way so that it can use the $_GET array. When Twitter (and I assume any other implementation) uses oAuth, it passes back to whatever URL you want with the
?token=250937602736037609273609327
appended onto the end, so I end up at

app.facebook.com/MyApplication/?token=302870637602746094276097

which looks right, but is in fact equivalent to

http://www.myownserver.com/index.php/c=SignIn&?token=302870637602746094276097

So the problem is that you can't have two question marks in the URL; the second needs to be an ampersand (&) to string more values together. The error message is a predictable
Disallowed Key Characters.

Can anyone thing of a good/clever way to get around this issue I'm having? I really don't want to dump the CodeIgniter part of this setup because it has a great DB abstraction and good helpers that I've already written a good bit of code on.

Thanks for any suggestions.
