Open Question: Going to make a website for a friend should I use PHP or C# using .NET?
November 22nd, 2009 by wood
My friend wants me to make a website for his small business and I am not sure if I should use PHP or C# using the .NET framework. I am familiar a little with both technologies, but am strongest at PHP since I worked for a while as a PHP programmer. I will say with PHP buying / selling was difficult to code for at least when I worked as a programmer. I have heard buying /selling online is much easier to do with the .NET framework. I know a little .NET and would like to learn more. It sounds like my friend wants this website that is going to be driven by online sales. I am thinking right now this is going to be dependent on online databases to keep records of sales, customers, and who is visiting his website.

    Hello Wood,

    here some benefits and disadvantages for PHP and .NET;

    ###########################################

    Costs: PHP free ; .NET you need a licence

    Costs for Hardware/Hosting: PHP low ; .NET high

    Browser support: PHP high ; .NET you can get problems

    Usability on Development: PHP only with additional Frameworks like crVCL ;-) ; .NET included

    ###########################################

    I would advise you to prefer PHP, with .NET the costs are between 60% and 90% higher. About difficulty to code, this depend on the experiences of the developer, .NET is also not more easier, but different.

    But problems to make a shop I can negate, see http://www.panthermedia.net, it’s developed complete with PHP and my crVCL Framework.

    best regards
    Ricardo
